TO VISIT AROUND
OF COCHABAMBA
Around of Cochabamba is divided in two regions
of different geography: Cochabamba Valley
and the Tropical Zone.
COCHABAMBA VALLEY:
In the Valley you can visit many places the same day, discovering
the charm of the following places:
Villa
Albina Patiño:
This is the site of the Villa Albina which belonged to Simón
I. Patiño located at 13 Km. from Cochabamba. It is considered
one of the most beautiful place of Cochabamba Valley. In this
residence we can appreciate a delicate design with french style.
Angostura
Lake:
Artificial lake located 17 Km from Cochabamba. A unique attraction
with beautiful scenery on whose banks are located private chalets
and restaurants whose specialties include fish. Favorite place
for sportsmen who are able to practice rowing, hunting and fishing.
All this is directly accessible from Cochabamba.
Tarata:
Located at 33 Km. South from Cochabamba. Colonial structure
that overcame the time, of narrow streets and republican facades.
Here, people of recognized historical contribution for the development
of the region and the country were born. Inside the Franciscan
convent is the urn of the martyr San Severino, patron saint of
the settlement and the temple of San Pedro is located in the main
square, contains a beautiful relic, an organ from the colonial
era.
Quillacollo:
An important province of Cochabamba, situated 13 km from the city.
The village of Quillacollo, has for centuries been a center of
Quechua artisanship. The town comes alive with color during its
traditional Sunday fairs. This town celebrates the religious festival
of the Virgin of Urkupiña, without doubt one of the most
important religious and folkloric festivals in the country (August
14th to 16th).
Incallajta:
Incallajta is 142 Km. from Cochabamba. This fortress was built
around 1460-1470 A.D. This Inca city and fortress first had military
purpose, because it was situated strategically to fight the indomitable
forest Chirihuano. Built at the foot of a mountain, and bordered
by two streams, this small city was once protected by an enormous
wall. Great amounts of tourists register there pace by this archeological
center to admire the Inca Architecture of relevant importance.
Tunari
National Park:
Situated 4 Km from the city. Great recreation and relaxation moments
for the tourist, good way to meet with the wooded nature (120.000
native and exotic species) located in the heights that surround
great part of the city of Cochabamba.
Wara Wara Lake:
A lake situated on the mountain range of Cochabamba at approximately
4.000 meters above sea level. Ideal for hiking and camping.
Arani:
The urbane structure of this town presents a classical stile of
colonial homes with stone streets. The temple of Arani, San Bartolomé,
is one of the greatest architectural legacies left by the colonial
era.
